DESCRIPTION:Lizzie Bisley – What we can learn from painters \nWhat can we\, as photographers\, learn from painters? That is the question we have posed to Te Papa art curator Lizzie Bisley for a talk at this week’s meeting. For example\, how do painters think about composition\, how do painters use light\, and how have these have changed over various periods and movements? \nLizzie has an honours degree in art history from Victoria University and has also studied at the Royal College of Art in London\, after which she worked as a curator at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. Lizzie returned to Wellington in 2019 and is now the Curator Modern Art at Te Papa. \nNovember 13\, Tararua Tramping Clubs\, Doors open from 7pm

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our Summer Photography Competition! This competition invites photographers of all levels to showcase their best summer-themed shots. From beach landscapes to city streets filled with sun-kissed crowds\, we’re looking for images that capture the essence of summer and the memories it creates. We have a prize for winner from our friends at Splendid. This is a fantastic opportunity to share your work and potentially have it recognized. So grab your camera and start snapping! \nHOW TO ENTER: \nThere are two ways to enter: \n\nUpload your entry to your Instagram timeline\, follow @wgtnphotographicsociety and use the #wpscompsummer Your profile will need to be set to public so we can see your entry.\nOr\, simply post your image in our Facebook discussion group with the #wpscompsummer\n\nYou can enter four images total either on Instagram or Facebook. \n \nCONDITIONS OF ENTRY: \n\nCompetition runs from 01 February 2023 until 28 February 2023.\nImages must have been taken within the last 6 months.\nWinner will receive a $30 voucher from Splendid or an alternate partner via email\nWe may share your entries to our social media accounts so feel free to tag yourself when we upload yours!\nThe judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.\nPrizes cannot be redeemed for cash or other products.\nBy entering you agree that a copy of any image you enter into a WPS competition may be used on our social channels and may be included in the WPS newsletter Impact!. DESCRIPTION:)The joys of mobile photography are immense – who doesn’t love taking photos on the go anytime\, anywhere without having to worry about carrying a camera everywhere? Some of our best memories are stored in our phone’s camera roll and we bet that’s the same for you. \nCategories & Dates\n\nThemes: Open & Summer in the city\nContest begins February 1st\, 2019 and ends February 28nd 5pm\, 2019\nWinners announced Early March\, 2019\n\nThe Competition & Requirements:\nDeadline: Feb 28th\, 2019 5pm \nEntries are open to Wellington photographers using a Smartphone or tablet to take images in the Wellington region.\nPosts on personal accounts (Instagram) are also eligible. The photos should not be altered in any desktop image processing program such as Photoshop. It is OK to use mobile editing apps. \nThe use of any mobile app for editing is permissible. In some cases we may ask for the original image to verify that it’s taken with a phone.
