SUMMARY:Poppy Lekner: Experimental photographic artist
DESCRIPTION:Poppy Lekner is an experimental photographic artist with interest in alternative photographic processes. Primarily working with cameraless photography. \nCurrent work and work of the last few years has been cameraless using the sun\, the darkroom and now more recently in lockdown the moon to create images. Poppy started making cameraless work while teaching photography at Wellington HIgh School after finishing her BFA at Massey in 2007. She came across some old workbooks that used exposure of silver gelatin paper to sunlight to illustrate to students the paper’s light sensitivity- at this time she had inherited her Czech Babi’s (grandmother) books and started making a series of sungrams using these books. \nFurther series led on to experimenting with other biographical objects and scientific objects from her father’s physics lab. This year she won the Parkin drawing prize for Forward Slash her work made on a brother typewriter. She was been selected as one of 15 experimental photographic artists to show in the Hundred Heroines (London) online exhibition\, and Black & White Looking Back Looking Forward 2020 winner in the Alternative Printing category in Black and White Magazine (US). \nHer work has featured on PhotoForum\, Women in Photography NZ AU and Experimental Photofestival. \nShe works from home and uses the darkroom at Inverlochy House. \nTo see more of her work -Instagram @poppylekner

She used to be a financial wire agency journalist before taking up photography 10 years ago\, and she doesn’t miss it one bit. \nCatherine started out with the Wellington Photographic Society and learned a lot from her time as a member. DESCRIPTION:Wellington Car Club’s annual Alexandra Road Hillclimb is shaping up to be extra exciting this year with special guest Hayden Paddon headlining the event! \nIf you are interested in high-speed or sports photography this is an excellent opportunity to get out and get some practice.  The cars will be running up the hill from approximately 9am-3pm. There is pedestrian access to all parts of the road\, including some good spectator spots. \nMotorsport is dangerous\, so if you intend on coming\, please RSVP to this event and make sure that you stop by the start-line (bottom of Alexandra Rd) to sign in before heading up the hill. \nThere is no vehicle access to Alexandra Road on the day—pedestrian access only.

DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear from two very talented Wellington street photographers – Robert Fletcher and Holly Neill – talk about their methods and why they love street photography. \nRobert’s profile: \nNoticing the details. Moving from the UK to Wellington gave me the opportunity to explore and discover a new city and a new country. A chance to see the small details others overlook daily and walk past on their way to work; like the specific way that light will hit the brim of a hat\, the view through a doorway\, or light reflected off a window. I have spent the last four years capturing these details to show how I see the world around me. \nI had an interest in photography from an early age – my parents were big advocates – but I did not take this seriously until I started walking the streets of Wellington and discovered the thrill of capturing those events that are only there for a brief moment of time. Taking inspiration from the likes of Fan Ho and Saul Leiter\, along with more contemporary photographers like Matt Hall (@the13thsecond) and Craig Whitehead (@sixstreetunder)\, I aim to show Wellington and its people to the world through my eyes. \nSee Robert’s work on Instagram: @streetsandshadow \nHolly’s profile: \nI’m a photographer with two main focuses: wildlife and street. Street photography gives me a sense of freedom\, with a light set up and the prospect that anything around the corner could become a image. My passion for street photography began when I was trying to find a way to be creative during the working week. I started taking my camera to work every single day\, shooting on my commutes and lunch breaks regardless of the weather. I challenge myself to notice the smaller details that I wouldn’t usually pay any attention to. Having my camera on me at all times has enabled me to capture some of my favourite images.
