DESCRIPTION:We had an excellent kick-off to the year at our last meeting\, with a good number of members\, visitors and presenters. Thank you to everyone who came along and an extra special thank you to those who shared what they’ve been up to over the summer. \nMy Journey to APSNZ\nAt this meeting our presenter is Barry Mahon. Barry has been a member of WPS for some time and won our most recent Print Competition. Barry will be speaking about his journey to attaining his APSNZ and the light painting technique he used. \nLight Painting Demonstration\nBarry’s member presentation will be followed by a short demonstration on how to capture Light Painting images.\nLight Painting Photography is the method of using handheld lights to paint and/or draw in a scene while the shutter of a camera is left open during a long exposure photograph. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our Summer Photography Competition! This competition invites photographers of all levels to showcase their best summer-themed shots. From beach landscapes to city streets filled with sun-kissed crowds\, we’re looking for images that capture the essence of summer and the memories it creates. We have a prize for winner from our friends at Splendid. This is a fantastic opportunity to share your work and potentially have it recognized. DESCRIPTION:This year’s print competition will be held on the 8th of December. Full Competition details: \n8th of December @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm\nCategories are: Open | Black and White\nNew Closing Date for Entries: On or before the 10th of November (midnight)\nPresentation Night: 8th of December 2022 at the TTC Club Rooms\n Please note that prints will need to be delivered on or before the 10th of November. If you have any comments or need special consideration\, please let us know at comms@wps.org.nz. You can organise the delivery of prints by email if needed if this is more convenient on or before the 10th of November. The Club Meeting on the 10th of November will be the last date for submission of your prints. When submitting your prints please ensure: \nThe prints are adequately protected i.e. with card/portfolio/bubble wrap\nAll items submitted with the prints are named i.e. photo boxes\, cardboard etc. (these will be returned to you with your print)\nEntry Specifications: \nLimited to 3 images per member per category\nImages must not have been used in any previous Wellington Photographic Society competition\nEach image is to be entered into one category only\nMatting of entries is optional. Maximum mat side – 16” x 20” (406mm x 508mm). Not framed. DESCRIPTION:The speaker we have on November 24th is Jane Dunn\, a forensic photographer with the New Zealand Police. This will be a fascinating talk about a form of photography as record-keeping. Jane has introduced herself in the bio below. \nMy Name is Jane Dunn and I am in my 17th year of being a police officer. I have been a full-time forensic photographer for 9 years. I am very passionate about the work that we do and even though it is not work that we can often share it is a very important role within the police. We have about 46 full-time forensic photographers nationally & in Wellington\, we have 5 full-time. We are all police constables. \nI have fallen in love with Police Dog Photography since we started the police dog calendar. So if I am not at work you can most likely find me with a police dog or puppy coming up with some crazy ideas. DESCRIPTION:Tucked up over the city of Wellington is Zealandia\, an ecosanctuary reminiscent of the days before humans arrived in New Zealand. \n\nZealandia is a great place to photograph more than just birds – there are invertebrates\, plants\, fungi\, and tuatara too (so you don’t need a huge long lens if you don’t have one). It’s spring at the moment so there should be some breeding displays going on\, and you might even spot some birds collecting food to feed hungry chicks!\n\n\n\nKeep in mind\, we do not have an official Zealandia guide for this meet-up\, but we do have a staff member who knows the sanctuary quite well  \nPlease let us know if you can make this meet-up as we need to determine if we have enough Zealandia members attending to get everyone in at half-price. DESCRIPTION:Track cycling is ideal\, as you have ‘captive’ subjects who keep going past you with some regularity\, and you can try all manner of techniques. \nYou can also leave bags etc in the middle of the park. It’s secure\, as only officials go there. A sunhat is strongly advised\, even in October. DESCRIPTION:Imagine you could keep your eyes open for a certain amount of time and capture everything you’re seeing in just one image – wouldn’t that be nice? That’s exactly how long exposure photography works; instead of “freezing” time\, the idea is to capture everything that happens while the shutter is open. \nThis is a quick online theory session giving you a starter guide to this popular form of photography. \nYou’ll learn how to use ND filters to master the visual effects they can create\, like making the water look like glass and clouds streak in the sky.
