SUMMARY:Workshop: People and Event Photography with Mary Hutchinson
DESCRIPTION:Our Summer workshop / photo walk lead by Mary Hutchinson is the second in a series of photo walks being organised by WPS as part of the Botanic Gardens 150th Celebrations and the ‘Fresh Shoots’ Photo Competition. \nMary’s photo walk will focus on People and Event Photography and is being combined with the Victorian Picnic that will be taking place in the gardens on the same day. We will start with a brief tutorial in the Seminar Room at the Treehouse before heading out into the gardens to capture people in the gardens and the activities of the Victorian Picnic. Mary will be available to interact and share ideas with participants and WPS volunteers will also be available to assist. \nRegistrations are now closed as workshop places are full. \nRegister Here \nMary is known for her inspiring street photography and ability to capture candid shots of everyday people. Some of our best memories are stored in our phone’s camera roll and we bet that’s the same for you. \nCategories & Dates\n\nThemes: Open & Summer in the city\nContest begins February 1st\, 2019 and ends February 28nd 5pm\, 2019\nWinners announced Early March\, 2019\n\nThe Competition & Requirements:\nDeadline: Feb 28th\, 2019 5pm \nEntries are open to Wellington photographers using a Smartphone or tablet to take images in the Wellington region.\nPosts on personal accounts (Instagram) are also eligible. The photos should not be altered in any desktop image processing program such as Photoshop. It is OK to use mobile editing apps. \nThe use of any mobile app for editing is permissible. In some cases we may ask for the original image to verify that it’s taken with a phone. SUMMARY:Botanic Garden 150th 'Fresh Shoots' Photo Competition: Summer Season
DESCRIPTION:Wellington Photographic Society is partnering with Excio\, NZ Photographer magazine\, New Zealand Photography Workshops\, Wellington Photographic Supplies\, and Nikon to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Wellington Botanic Garden with a 12-month photo competition. The photo competition is open to amateur and professional photographers\, including youth aged 14-18-years.  \nThe competition is split into four quarterly competitions based on each of the four seasons. Entries for the Summer quarter close on 22 March 2019. \nEntrants can submit one image per season and are encouraged to capture the seasonal aspects of life at the garden\, then select the best category for their image when completing the entry form and uploading their image to www.excio.io/freshshoots. Terms and conditions are also available online.  \nEach season\, a panel of expert judges will assess images on the basis of quality\, creativity\, and how the image captures the unique seasonal aspects of the botanic garden. Prizes will be awarded for the seasonal winners as well as the best image in each category – People\, Nature\, Events\, and Creative. A Supreme winner will be selected from the eight seasonal winners at the conclusion of the 12-month competition. DESCRIPTION:Our annual Print Competition is an opportunity to submit photographic prints to be presented and critiqued at our club meeting on 27 September by this year’s judge\, Brian Harmer. The competition is an Open category and a Theme category (White). \nEntries closed midnight 13 September. \nEntry Specifications: \n\nLimited to 3 images per member & category\nImages must not have been used in any previous WPS competition\nEach image is to be entered into one category only\nMatting of entries is optional Maximum Mat side – 16” x 20” (406mm x 508mm). Not framed. If image is not matted it is recommended that images are printed with a white border for display purposes.\nImage size – any size within the Mat dimensions\nPlease submit each print with the official entry form detailing your name\, name of image and hanging details\n\nNOTE: Wellington Photographic Supplies will again be supporting our Annual Print Competition by providing HALF PRICE printing of up to six images only per person of any size up to 12×18. DESCRIPTION:The Annual General Meeting of The Wellington Photographic Society will be held on Thursday 9 August 2018 at the Tararua Tramping Club rooms\, 4 Moncrieff Street\, Mount Victoria\, commencing at 7.30pm. \nThe business to be conducted will include the following items:-\n\nConfirmation of the minutes of the previous annual general meeting.\nReceipt of the President’s Report for the year ended 30 June 2018.\nReceipt of the Treasurer’s Report for the year ended 30 June 2018.\nAdoption of the annual financial statements for the year ended 30 June 2018.\nElection of officers and committee members for the year ending 30 June 2019.\nThe rules provided for the following officers:- President\, Vice President\, Immediate Past President\, Hon Secretary and Honorary Treasurer and up to five committee members\nDetermining the membership subscriptions for the year ending 30 June 2019.\nRecommending whether a financial review of the accounts for the forthcoming year is required\nAny other business\n\nNotes\n\nDoors will open at 7.30pm\nIn conjunction with the agm Gail Teale & Shannon Doyle has organised a photographic session with some Ballet dancers capturing movement.  It should be fun so bring your camera and tripod!\nIf you can’t attend the meeting in person\, you can arrange for a proxy to vote on your behalf.\nNominations for Officers and Committee members close on Thursday 26 July.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a talk with Paul Hoelen who is both the 2017 AIPP Tasmanian Professional Landscape Photographer of the Year and Commercial Photographer of the Year. \nOriginally born in New Zealand to a Dutch Sailor and an American Nun\, Paul has managed to put his four passports to excellent use before eventually settling on the beautiful\, wild island of Tasmania. \nSelf taught\, travel hungry and with a healthy thirst to grow as an image-maker he thrives on the challenge and freshness of shooting a wide diversity of genres\, ranging from fine art nudes\, landscapes\, and large-scale event photography through to fashion\, travel\, documentary and environmental portraiture – though he’s most renowned for his exquisite landscape imagery. \nPaul is a Master of Photography in the AIPP (2 Gold Bars) and Fellow of the NZIPP\, two times Overseas Photographer of the Year in NZ\, three times Tasmanian Professional Photographer of the Year and six times Tasmanian Landscape Photographer of the Year and is the current Commercial Photographer of the Year in Tasmania. He judges regularly at a state\, national and international level\, runs photography workshops worldwide and writes for numerous magazines and publications.
