DESCRIPTION:The third in our series of Botanic Garden workshops will be lead by professional landscape and nature photographer\, Richard Young and run in conjunction with New Zealand Photography Workshops and Excio. \nWe have kindly been provided with the Begonia House for the workshop\, an offer not normally offered to the public!  \nDuring the day we shall also be hosting an Autumnal Photo Walk throughout the gardens. \n\nDay Overview\n 2pm – Autumn Photo Walk\n From 2pm\, join tutors of New Zealand Photography Workshops for a photo walk in the Botanic Gardens where we will be capturing their beautiful Autumn settings and colours. This is an ample chance to meet other photographers from Wellington\, learn some new skills and try some new gear! Meet at the Begonia House. \n\n 4pm – Photography inside the Begonia House\n At 4pm\, following our walk\, registered participants for the event will have the exclusive opportunity to photograph inside the Begonia House (generally a no-photography zone). DESCRIPTION:Our Summer workshop / photo walk lead by Mary Hutchinson is the second in a series of photo walks being organised by WPS as part of the Botanic Gardens 150th Celebrations and the ‘Fresh Shoots’ Photo Competition. \nMary’s photo walk will focus on People and Event Photography and is being combined with the Victorian Picnic that will be taking place in the gardens on the same day. We will start with a brief tutorial in the Seminar Room at the Treehouse before heading out into the gardens to capture people in the gardens and the activities of the Victorian Picnic. Some of our best memories are stored in our phone’s camera roll and we bet that’s the same for you. \nCategories & Dates\n\nThemes: Open & Summer in the city\nContest begins February 1st\, 2019 and ends February 28nd 5pm\, 2019\nWinners announced Early March\, 2019\n\nThe Competition & Requirements:\nDeadline: Feb 28th\, 2019 5pm \nEntries are open to Wellington photographers using a Smartphone or tablet to take images in the Wellington region.\nPosts on personal accounts (Instagram) are also eligible. The photos should not be altered in any desktop image processing program such as Photoshop. It is OK to use mobile editing apps. \nThe use of any mobile app for editing is permissible. In some cases we may ask for the original image to verify that it’s taken with a phone. SUMMARY:Botanic Gardens Spring Photo Walk: Creative Photography
DESCRIPTION:The Spring photo walk lead by Jordyn O’Keeffe is the first in a series of photo walks being organised by WPS as part of the Botanic Gardens 150th Celebrations\, alongside the Botanic Gardens ‘Fresh Shoots’ Photo Competition. \nJordyn’s photo walk will focus on Creative Photography\, starting with a 45-minute tutorial in the Seminar Room at the Treehouse and followed by a guided photo walk through the gardens. Jordyn will be available to interact and share ideas with participants and WPS volunteers will also be available to assist. \nPlaces on this photo walk are now full and registrations have been closed. \nJordyn has been teaching adults how to be creative through the medium of photography for over thirteen years. SUMMARY:Botanic Garden 150th 'Fresh Shoots' Photo Competition: Summer Season
DESCRIPTION:Wellington Photographic Society is partnering with Excio\, NZ Photographer magazine\, New Zealand Photography Workshops\, Wellington Photographic Supplies\, and Nikon to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Wellington Botanic Garden with a 12-month photo competition. The photo competition is open to amateur and professional photographers\, including youth aged 14-18-years.  \nThe competition is split into four quarterly competitions based on each of the four seasons. Entries for the Summer quarter close on 22 March 2019. \nEntrants can submit one image per season and are encouraged to capture the seasonal aspects of life at the garden\, then select the best category for their image when completing the entry form and uploading their image to www.excio.io/freshshoots. Terms and conditions are also available online.  \nEach season\, a panel of expert judges will assess images on the basis of quality\, creativity\, and how the image captures the unique seasonal aspects of the botanic garden. Prizes will be awarded for the seasonal winners as well as the best image in each category – People\, Nature\, Events\, and Creative. A Supreme winner will be selected from the eight seasonal winners at the conclusion of the 12-month competition.
