Competitions & Events
A selection of our events
Each year, WPS run several club competitions, a projected image competition and an annual print competition. We encourage all members to participate in the club competitions as a learning experience as well as a chance to compete. Experienced judges are used to critique the entries and historical WPS Cups are awarded to the top placed photographers.
Annual Projected Image Competition
The ideal introduction to WPS competitions, our annual Projected Image Competition is an opportunity to submit images to be projected at a club meeting and viewed by a qualified judge at the competition.
WPS Annual Print Competition
Digital images are fine but you still can’t beat a good photographic print. We love to see printed images and hold an annual competition to celebrate that. This competition is an excellent way to improve your photographic skills. Listening to the judge’s comments on your prints and the prints of the other competitors gives you a better insight into your photography.
Wellington Interclub Print Battle
WPS joins with other local camera clubs each year in the Wellington Interclub Battle. Ten topics are announced by the host club at the start of the year and one image for each topic is selected by a panel vote to select the WPS entry. The final Interclub event is always a lot of fun.
WPS Annual Exhibition
The pinnacle event of the year is our annual Exhibition which is held at a public gallery towards the end of the year. Members are asked to submit the best of their year’s photographic work, then a panel of experienced members select around 50 images to present in the Exhibition. For many of our members this is a wonderful experience to exhibit their work.
PSNZ Competitions
PSNZ is the National Body we are affiliated to. PSNZ promotes photography and image-making and aims to support photographers in realising their potential, irrespective of their level of knowledge, equipment or skills. The Society’s internationally recognised Honours Awards (LPSNZ, APSNZ, FPSNZ) are held annually in March, with some WPS members (also PSNZ members) competing. This is a great opportunity for experienced photographers to compete for honours and distinctions. *PSNZ affiliation fees are an additional cost.
