Sophie Thorn – Victoria University Photography Collection

September 11, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Photographer: Hardie Shaw Victoria University of Wellington Historical Photographs

A tour of the photographs from Ngā Puhipuhi o Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington Art Collection

Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington holds a nationally significant collection of works of art which is under the care of Te Pātaka Toi Adam Art Gallery. Known as Ngā Puhipuhi o Te Herenga Waka, or ‘the feathers which adorn the waka’, over half of this collection can be found on display in the various buildings on the university campuses at any one time.

For this special outing, join the gallery’s Kaiwhakarākei, Curator Collections, Sophie Thorn, for an afterhours tour of the Hunter Building focusing on the photography in the collection.

We will see photographic works by Lucien Rizos, Ans Westra, Peter Preyer, Joyce Campbell, Fiona Pardington, Ann Noble and Chris Corson Scott.
We are meeting at the foyer of the Hunter Building. This is the big set of glass doors off gate 2 between the two sets of lights on Kelburn Parade.
As the tour begins at 6pm we would suggest, that people park in the Hunter Building carpark (coming in Gate 1 (right at the bend between Salamanca Road and Kelburn Parade). While these are reserved spaces for staff after 5:30pm parking is a bit of a free-for-all on campus after hours.

Thursday, 11 September, 6:00pm start, Meet at Hunter Building (Main Entrance off Kelburn Parade)
