WPS Annual Exhibition – Tātou Taonga: Our Treasure

Our annual exhibition showcases the best work of our members. We try to include the work of as many members as possible, with a wide variety of styles and subjects. One thing they have in common for this year’s exhibition is that all the images have been shot within the Wellington region.

Inspired by Wellington’s unique landscape and way of life, this exhibition showcases photographs captured by members of the society. The exhibition celebrates the character and diversity of our great city and offers a uniquely local perspective, with each photograph having been shot in the Wellington region, which we hope provides insight into how Wellington is used for travel, trade and recreation.

In this issue you’ll find a profile of the life and career of Peter Bush, who is one of New Zealand’s top sport photographers, an interview with the societies new president Shannon Doyle, and an interview with recent autumn Fresh Shoots competition winner Vandy Pollard.

Julian Butler – Infrared photography

Julian will be discussing the techniques behind the capture and production of his digital infrared images, which he has been shooting since 2007, focusing on the Wellington region and locations further afield. Culminating in a solo exhibition at Thistle Hall in 2010, this series of images aims to escape the usual infrared subject of nature and opt instead for urban scenes with introduced colour. Julian graduated from Otago Polytech School of Art in 1995.

Doors open at 7:00pm, meeting starts at 7:30pm.
