WPS 125th Anniversary Exhibition
Celebrating 125yrs of Photographic Excellence
125th Anniversary Exhibition: 17 Nov 2017
The Wellington Photographic Society is one of the longest running such societies in New Zealand and this year we are celebrating 125 years since some passionate amateur photographers held the first meeting in Nov 1892. This year our exhibition will once again showcase the photographic creativity of WPS members as well as celebrate the history of the society in recognition of our 125th anniversary.
We would like to welcome the Wellington community to join us and help celebrate our history and our community.
The exhibition will be held at the Lightspace Gallery from the 17th November – 4th December. This exhibition will showcase the work of some of the early members alongside work from current members.
Open to the public. Entry is free.
Today, 125 years later, the group is larger and more diverse, but our mission of encouraging the pursuit of photography continues. We offer programs and activities for both amateur and seasoned photographers alike.
125yrs: Our History
WPS has operated continuously since 1892, making this organization one of the oldest camera clubs in North Island. For over 125 years, WPS has grown and adapted, embracing new techniques and technologies – and remains vibrant and active. WPS does not specialize in any one photographic discipline, instead educating and encouraging its members to explore all subjects and types of photography. While the majority of its members have converted to digital formats, film enthusiasts remain an active minority.
Today, 125 years later, the group is larger and more diverse, but our core mission of encouraging the pursuit of photography continues. Membership in the Wellington Photographic Society is open to anyone having an interest in any aspect of photography. For over a century the society has helped develop the skills of amateur and professional photographers, helping many start a life-long hobby.
