A New Zealand based professional photographer & Post Production technician.

I started shooting weddings and doing modelling portfolios when I was 17. I lived in a small town & outgrew it quickly. Fortunately- I became a skilled cinema projectionist & with the sudden expansion of cinemas in the 90’s – along with my camera – I found myself moving around New Zealand – ending up in Wellington – just as ‘Lord of the Rings’ began production.

After projecting over 20 thousand films – I took a leap of faith- & found myself working in the studios projection rooms and cutting takes on Hollywood films. I eventually became a VFX supervisor in an Oscar-winning team & an expert 35mm film colorist.

But I often used to say to people- I’m only good at this- because I learnt to take photos and develop them myself when I was 15. Every principal I was using – came from the camera lens or the dark room- experimenting over and over until I got it right.

I noticed that the film industry was affecting (& improving) the way I was taking photos. Cinema requires drama or some sort of language in every frame. I felt the same should be applied to my photographs. While continuing to ‘Master Movies’ in my world class editing suite- I needed to separate my love of photography – and give it room to breathe on its own.

In 2017 I came up with the idea to create ‘PhilmHaus’ & the business was launched in early 2019.
