This month’s magazine is all about Film Photography, with articles by Stuart Clook on 1900’s printing techniques, Ben from Wellington Film lab with tips on getting back into Film, Tim Prebble on life with his prized X-PAN panoramic camera and a couple of other great articles about photographers using film to fulfill their artist vision!

We also have articles on the recent Fresh Shoots Photo competition and the recent workshop the club hosted and news & competitions updates for March.

WPS Film Competition

This March will be celebrating all things Film Photography related, with speakers and a monthly competition.

  • You can enter via Instagram with the hashtag #wpsfilmcomp
  • Or enter via email to wpscomp@gmail.com
  • You may enter up to three images
  • Name each image with your name AND image number: “FirstName-LastName-NUMBER.jpg”
  • Images must be larger than 2048px and no bigger than 5mb.

A very warm welcome to what promises to be an exciting year of photography for our Society. We hope you had a relaxing summer holiday break and have had time to recharge your creative batteries. We start the year with two photographic competitions, one embracing mobile photography and the other of a more retro nature dealing with film photography.

In this issue, we talk about Mobile Photography, we chat with Paddy Flanagan, explore the life and work of Henri Cartier-Bresson and we provide an update on the 2019 programme.

WPS Mobile Photography Competition

For 2019 we are looking to celebrate new and emerging forms of photography. Starting in February we are looking to celebrate the New Zealand summer with the camera you always have with you, your smartphone!


The Competition & Requirements:

Deadline: Feb 28th, 2019 5pm

Entries are open to photographers using a Smartphone or tablet to take images in the Wellington region.

Posts on personal accounts (Instagram) are also eligible. The photos should not be altered in any desktop image processing program such as Photoshop. It is OK to use mobile editing apps.

The use of any mobile app for editing is permissible. In some cases we may ask for the original image to verify that it’s taken with a phone. Photos which cannot be verified will be disqualified.

November Photo Topics – Landscape and Wildlife

Starting in 2018 we are asking our members to submit images around 2 monthly topics. This is a opportunity to share images on a more informal basis and get everyone more involved in sharing images.

This month is Landscape and Wildlife

Send your favourite 3 pics to sharemypics@wps.org.nz by the last day of the month. All submissions will be included in a short presentation of images at the first club meeting of the following month.

Wellington Photographic Society – Exhibition 2018

The 2018 Annual Wellington Photographic Exhibition is being held this year at the Green Street Gallery in Newtown (Green Street) and will run from 2-11 November 2018 with a possible extension to 18 November 2018.

Friends and family welcome are welcome.

INFORMAL OPENING NIGHT:

  • Friday 2 November 2018
  • 6.30pm to 8.30pm
