Tatsiana Chypsanava – Ethical Visual Storytelling 13th of July 2023

Tatsiana is a freelance documentary photographer with a focus on indigenous issues, migration and climate change.

She will be talking about a long-term project of hers, documenting her adopted whanau. She will discuss developing the project, its importance in her professional journey and finding herself in photography through embracing ethical visual storytelling.

PSNZ Print Circle

If you attended Barry Mahon’s talk on his PSNZ Honours portfolio and light painting demonstration, then you may recall Barry talking about the PSNZ Print Circle which helped him develop and improve his photography.

Barry has advised that there is space for a couple of new members and is hoping that one or both spots can be filled by WPS members.

We are planning to submit an entry into the Trenna Packer Salver competition this year. This competition is for a set of 6 nature projected images from participating clubs.

We have a couple of quick announcements for you this weekend.

  1. Next Thursdays meeting will be a movie documentary evening. We have a few ideas in mind for this, but would love to hear from you. Email us if you have any suggestions Must be photography related 🙂
  2. The Wellington regional Interclub competition is coming up soon (Oct) We’d love to see some more entries from Members. More info here: http://wps.wps.org.nz/interclub-2022/
  3. We are looking for several new committee members for the 22/23 calendar year. Several are stepping down after 3-4 years helping out. This is a chance to help shape what the club does each year and give a little back 🙂

Fireworks 101 & Mid-Winter Xmas

Looking to take your firework photography to the next level? You’ve come to the right place.
Tararua Tramping Club – 7.00pm – Thursday 23rd of June

This meeting precedes a meetup for the Matariki Fireworks Celebration on Friday the 24th of June.

In this meeting, we will go over some techniques and tips to shooting fireworks and show off some member images. Hopefully by the time you’ve finished this meeting, you’ll be ready to capture gorgeous images like an absolute pro.

  • The best settings for firework photography
  • Essential firework photo gear
  • A simple way to prevent image blur
  • Much more!

Mid-Winter Xmas
You’re invited to join us on Thursday, 23th of June at 7:00pm for our Fireworks & Mid-Winter Xmas at the Tararua Tramping Club.

In addition to the fireworks presentation, there will be some festive frivolities such as a festive photography quiz some food and drinks.
Swap Meet:
If you have a closet full of photography stuff that never gets used? Then this might be your opportunity to get rid of those items and make a few bucks. All you have to do is bring along your gear and name a price.
Drinks will be provided and we ask that you bring a plate of food to share. Doors open from 7:00pm
