Wellington Botanic Garden 150th ‘Fresh Shoots’ Photo Competition
Wellington Photographic Society is partnering with Excio, NZ Photographer magazine, New Zealand Photography Workshops, Wellington Photographic Supplies, and Nikon to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Wellington Botanic Garden with a 12-month photo competition.
The photo competition is open to amateur and professional photographers, including youth aged 14 – 18 years.
The competition is split into four quarterly competitions based on each of the four seasons:
- Spring
1 September – 14 December 2018 - Summer
15 December – 22 March 2019 - Autumn
23 March – 21 June 2019 - Winter
22 June – 20 September 2019
An exciting travel prize will be offered for the Supreme Winner and a great selection of seasonal prizes for adult and youth entrants.

Entrants can submit one image per season and are encouraged to capture the seasonal aspects of the gardens then select the best category for their image when completing the entry form and uploading their image to excio.io/freshshoots. *Terms and Conditions also available online.
Prizes:
Each season, a panel of expert judges will assess images on the basis of quality, creativity, and how the image captures a unique seasonal aspect of the Wellington Botanical Garden. Prizes will be awarded for the seasonal winners as well as the best image in each category – People, Nature, Events, and Creative. The Supreme winner will be selected from the eight seasonal winners at the conclusion of the 12-month competition.
Seasonal Winner
Senior – Nikon Product $400 Voucher plus 12-month free membership with Wellington Photographic Society
Senior Junior (14-18 years) – 1-day New Zealand Photography Wellington Workshop
Category winners: Welllington Photographic Supplies $50 voucher Pocket Guide to Landscape & Wildlife Photography
Supreme Winner Exciting travel prize – details to be confirmed soon
In addition, each season a People’s Choice winner will be selected based on the most ‘Likes’ and ‘Shares’ of the images displayed at excio.io/wellington_botanic_garden
Winning images will be publicised via the following media: Excio, NZ Photographer magazine, and the Council are looking at a display in the CBD.
Botanic Gardens Photo Walk Series
Wellington Photographic Society is also organising a series of photo walks at the Botanic Gardens. The Spring Photo Walk lead by Jordyn O’Keeffe, is the first in the series and will focus on Creative Photography. The photo walk will start with a 45-minute tutorial in the Seminar Room at the Treehouse, followed by a guided photo walk through the gardens.
