The Society is seeking a range of Nature images from members in order to enter the Trenna Packer Interclub competition again this year. We are required to compile a set of six projected images on the topic of New Zealand Nature with the limitation that only one image in the set can be entered by anyone member.

2021 Exhibition: Member information

2021 Exhibition: Member information

The exhibition is being held this year at the Te Auaha Gallery in Dixon St and will run from 13-27 July 2021.

Our annual exhibition is the opportunity to showcase the best work of our members to family, friends and the public and we try to include work from each member.

Current members of WPS are invited to submit up to three images to be considered for selection for the exhibition.

Trenna Packer Salver competition 2021

Attention nature photographers

We are making a club entry into the Trenna Packer Salver competition again this year. This is a competition open to all clubs in New Zealand. Each club submits a set of six nature projected images which is judged as a set and not as individual photos.
Flow and cohesion are important and the images must all be taken in New Zealand or its offshore islands. Cultivated plants, domestic animals and confined animals are excluded.

Mobile Photography Competition 2021

For 2021 we are once again looking to celebrate new and emerging forms of photography with a Mobile Photography Competition. This competition aims to give more opportunities to photographers on the go. We are looking for new and different approaches to photography and images showing the vision possible with a modern smartphone. With this competition running during February, it’s our chance to help celebrate the New Zealand Summer and our Beautiful city with the camera you always have with you, your smartphone!

At Home – April/May Photo challenge

It’s time for mini little competition for April/May in co-junction with our monthly theme ‘At Home’

With everyone spending a lot more time at home recently we thought it might be a good idea to see what everyone has been up to At Home. This April/May we’re looking for photos that demonstrate how you’ve been spending your time. Show us what you’ve been up to at home during the lockdown.

We’ll have a little prize for a random entrant Show us your favourite images by sending an email to wpsimpact@gmail.com or by using the #wpsathome by the end of May.

12hr B&W Competition: Images

Our first competition of the year took place on the 22nd of February. The challenge was to take a photo or series of photos representing one or more themes. Entrants had 12 hours from finding out the themes to take, edit and submit their images.

The competition was open to all photographers in the Greater Wellington Region, and images needed to be taken within this area.

The overall winner of the competition was Jack Driver who took home a brand new Canon 200D Mark II from Wellington Photographic Supplies and Canon New Zealand and a selection of other wonderful prizes from Splendid, Okko and Photography by Woolf.

Other winners included Holly Neill for the best overall set, Alison Viskov, Zuyi Woon, Holly Neill and Jack Driver for winning the best image in each theme.

We would like to once again extend a huge thank you to our wonderful sponsors – Wellington Photographic Supplies and Canon New Zealand, Okko Pro Filters, Splendid and Photography
by Woolf.

WPS Black and white competition themes

Here are the themes for our 12hr Black and White competition:

  • People in the Community – Show us the heart of the community and what makes it special.
  • At the Coast – It is more than beaches. Show us what is happening at a beach near you.
  • Highlight the Shadows – Make the most of black and white using light and shade.
  • Man Made – A broad theme: anything that has been made by man.
