Mobile Photography Competition 2021
For 2021 we are once again looking to celebrate new and emerging forms of photography with a Mobile Photography Competition. This competition aims to give more opportunities to photographers on the go. We are looking for new and different approaches to photography and images showing the vision possible with a modern smartphone. With this competition running during February, it’s our chance to help celebrate the New Zealand Summer and our Beautiful city with the camera you always have with you, your smartphone!
The Competition & Requirements:
Deadline: Feb 28th, 2021 12pm
Entries are open to photographers using a Smartphone or tablet to take images in the Wellington region.
Posts on personal accounts (Instagram) are also eligible. The photos should not be altered in any desktop image processing program such as Photoshop. It is OK to use mobile editing apps.
The use of any mobile app for editing is permissible. In some cases we may ask for the original image to verify that it’s taken with a phone. Photos which cannot be verified will be disqualified.

Submission:
- All images must be taken on a smartphone, no images taken on digital, SLR or DSLR cameras are allowed.
- Multiple entries are allowed, with a max of 3 images per theme per participant.
- Entries must be made via social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram) using the hashtag #wpsmobilecomp or via email to comms@wps.org.nz
- There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter the competition.
- The competition is open from 12:00am on 1/02/2021 until 23.59 on 28/02/2021
- The entry process will remain open for two (2) hours after this time to allow for transmission of entries made close to the deadline.
- Any incomplete or late entry will be deemed ineligible.

Uploading & Preparing your images:
You can enter up to 3 photos for each theme taken with a mobile phone until the deadline of 12pm, 28th of February 2021. Remember it’s free to participate!!!
Prizes:
All entries compete for the overall grand prizes
The work of the winners and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place Winners on each category and selected others will be published on WPS website and FB page and other published WPS materials.
- Honorable Mentions: Our judges will award several Honorable Mention to entries to acknowledge talent as they deem fit.
- No cash alternative to the prize will be offered. The prizes are not transferable. Prizes are subject to availability and we reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.
- Judging Criteria: Members of the judging panel will review all entries and judge images on the basis of artistic merit, originality, subject, and style and ultimately decide the winners. The Prizes will be awarded by a panel of 6 of various photographers with recognized merit in general photography, and mobile photography in particular.
Entry Fees
Entry is free, but images must be taken within the Wellington region.
Conditions of Use
- The winner agrees to the use of his/her name and image in any publicity material. Any personal data relating to the winner or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current Data Protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party without the entrant’s prior consent.
- Entrants retain full copyright over their images. However, by submitting images to the competition, you are agreeing to grant Wellington Photographic Society license to use those images in any of their publications, on the website and/or any promotional material. Where appropriate, reasonable efforts will be made to credit the photographer, though this may not always be possible
- The winners may be required to take part in publicity such as posing for photos with the competition sponsors.
General
- By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
- Entry into the prize draw will be deemed as acceptance of these terms and conditions.
- Wellington Photographic Society reserves the right to cancel or amend the prize draw and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of Wellington Photographic Societies control.
- Any changes to the prize draw will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by Wellington Photographic Society.
- Participants represent and warrant that (1) the Photographs are original and that they own the rights to their Photographs, (2) the Photographs do not violate the rights of any third party, (3) the Photographs do not convey a false or misleading impression, and (4) any additional information they submit about the Photographs is accurate.
