WPS Takes 2nd Place in Wellington Interclub Battle

Congratulations to the Hutt Camera Club who won the 2016 Wellington Interclub Battle. WPS gave them a good chase right to the finish line but in the end HCC lead with a 2 point advantage.

Thanks to APPS for organising a great event and Helen Mitchell for judging such an exciting competition.

Well done to all the WPS photographers who provided the ten images and especially to Ian McIlraith and Dave Roberts whose prints got first place in their respective categories.

As usual, it was a fun evening of good club rivalry and socialising.

Annual General Meeting 2016

News from the Annual General Meeting 2016

Funding the Programme WPS President Gail Teale and Treasurer Thomas Zink reviewed the past year and set out the club’s plans to make the coming year a great one. The AGM decided that the 2016-2017 subscription will be $84 for individual members and $48 for student/unwaged members with no discount for early payment. The new rate (up from $78/$42) will help fund the club’s activities as we go into 2017, the 125th anniversary of WPS.  It will go some way towards covering costs of upgrading our equipment and our ongoing costs like rent of the meeting hall, with less reliance on dipping into our reserve buffer. The Committee intends to apply for grants to cover major events, such as the annual exhibition and a key note speaker. It will drive to recruit new members.

New Committee

The 2016-2017 Committee is: Gail Teale (President), Hilary Troup (Secretary), Thomas Zink (Treasurer), Kerry Whittaker (Programme), Julie Brixton (Competitions), Brendon Lang (Webmaster), Lesley Moyes (Impact newsletter) and new member Shannon Doyle, who is keen to focus on communications and marketing. Clive Pigott is the Immediate Past President. Jenny O’Connor is continuing in the role of Exhibition Officer.

New Life Member

Thomas Zink was unanimously voted in as our newest life member. President Gail Teale detailed Tom’s work as a longstanding committee member, who has consistently gone beyond the call of duty to keep the club going. He has been a steady hand at the wheeel in his role as Treasurer.

Wellington Photographic Society wins Wanganui Cup

WPS was presented the Wanganui Cup at the Central Regional Convention as the winning club in the 2015 Central Regional Interclub Projected Image Competition.

Clubs from throughout the Central Region were required to submit a set of eight images, each image must be by a different photographer (click here to view the WPS set of images). The history of the Wanganui Cup dates back to 1959 and was originally awarded to the best set of slides but with the development of digital photography, the cup is now awarded to the best set of projected images.
WPS has now won the Wanganui Cup on ten separate occasions however this is the first time since 2009 so the news was received with great excitement.

Congratulations to the WPS photographers behind the winning set of eight images: Ross Collins, Ian McIlraith, Barry Mahon, Jenny O’Connor, Peter Rodgers, Gail Teale, Mike Timmer, and Glen Wheatley.

A presentation of the cup and certificates to the photographers will take place at the WPS meeting on 26 Nov.
